The Forest Awakens
One of the major highlights of spring are a sure sign that the season is in full swing is the emergence of Bluebells in the woodlands across the country. A magical carpet of these flowers only lasts a few weeks so you need to be quick to see them. Bluebells usually flower from late March to early May, but it does vary from year to year. They are one of the last spring flowers to bloom before the woodland canopy closes up and new leaves block out the sunlight. If spring is mild, bluebells respond by flowering earlier.
This scene incorporates a fallen tree among a blanket of Bluebells and whilst a fallen tree may symbolise death, In the language of flowers, the bluebell symbolises constancy, humility and gratitude. They should not be picked or trampled however not only in the name of conservation but they are deemed unlucky if picked! It has always been said to be very unlucky to bring the bluebell into the house, and children would have once been warned to avoid picking them, and those who did so would be forever followed by a woodland goblin.
